Judging begins for Isa Award for Service to Humanity

Manama, Nov. 17 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, the Special Representative of His Majesty the King, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity, received members of the International Judging Committee as they convened in Bahrain to commence deliberations for the 6th edition of the Isa Award for Service to Humanity (2024-2025).

 During the meeting, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak praised the committee, chaired by Professor Jan Paulsson, for its expertise and dedication in selecting the shortlisted candidates for the final stage.

The committee, chaired by Professor Jan Paulsson, will evaluate the achievements of 150 nominees in the initial phase, followed by a second round of evaluations. The Isa Award Secretariat will later conduct field verifications of the shortlisted candidates to confirm the details provided.

The Isa Award for Service to Humanity, established in 2008 by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Isa Award honours the memory of the late His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and recognises outstanding contributions to humanitarian service. Awarded every two years, it includes a $1 million prize, a gold medal, and a certificate of merit signed by His Majesty.

Previous award laureates include Dr. Jemilah Mahmood from Malaysia for disaster relief efforts (1st laureate), Professor Achyuta Samanta from India for poverty alleviation (2nd laureate), Egypt’s Children’s Cancer Hospital (3rd laureate), Pakistan’s Edhi Foundation for anti-poverty initiatives (4th laureate), and Nepalese ophthalmologist Dr. Sanduk Ruit for saving millions from blindness (5th laureate). The Isa Award for Service to Humanity holds global prestige, attracting candidates from around the world for its focus on impactful humanitarian service.
