Nominations for “Isa Award for Service to Humanity” will be accepted till November

HM King Hamad Presents Isa Award to Leading Humanitarian

Manama – Bahrain, September 8, 2014: The Board of Trustees for “Isa Award for Service to Humanity” has announced that nominations for the award is still open through the website till the end of November, 2014, highlighting that the nomination was open since June last year where many applications were received so far from all around the world.

 

Since its establishment in the year 2009 by H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Isa Award seeks to honour the individuals and organizations around the globe that have served humanity in a profound way and made an impact in one of the following categories: disaster prevention and relief, education, dialogue among civilizations, enhancing human tolerance and international peace, urban development, environment protection and climate change, poverty alleviation and Scientific achievements in the fields that served humanity.

 

Dr. Jemilah Mahmood from Malaysia the founder of the Malaysian Medical Relief Society (MERCY Malaysia) was the laureate of the Award during its first edition in April last year. She was honoured in an official ceremony that was held under the patronage of H.M. King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the attendance of senior officials and VIP’s from inside and outside of Bahrain. The jury members who represent a team of international experts have valued the extraordinary and tireless efforts of Dr. Jemilah Mahmood in the field of human services in different disaster locations in many countries and was able to achieve remarkable achievements that are worth the appreciation. In addition a team from the General Secretariat has conducted a field research on the achievements of Dr. Jemilah and inspected the projects and disaster relief centers that she has established in more than one country which enhanced the vision that the Jury Committee has reached to in choosing the award’s first edition laureate.

 

The Isa Award is granted every two years to an individual or organization selected by a Jury Committee that is formed by the Board of Trustees for each individual edition of the award, members of the jury committee include experts, scientists, consultants and dignitaries from around the world. The Jury Committee coordinates with research centers, specialized organizations and stakeholders in the field of humanitarian services from around the world to select the qualified candidates. The laureate will be awarded a certificate of merit, a gold medal and a prize of one million US dollars. It is expected that H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, The Chairman of The Board of Trustees of Isa Award for Service to Humanity will announce the name of the laureate for the current edition of the award during a press conference in December end of this year.

 

This Award comes from Bahrain to celebrates the Late Amir Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa life-long dedication to humanitarianism and to commemorate his legacy in building the modern nation and the solidification of the noblest human values, in addition to his well known generous giving personality and humanitarian efforts he was recognized for his unique role that made his country establish and maintain regional, Arabian and worldwide friendships and cooperation.
